6 day tour Back-to-Basic Pingpe

Experience the untouched Jungle and the authentic of Upper-Suriname!

Unique in this tour is the Back-to-Basic Experience!

For 3 days you go deep in the pristine jungle of Suriname. In about 4 hours, depending on the walking speed of the group, you run into a large creek. During the hike the guide tells you about the flora and fauna, but also about the use of the forest in this area. At the creek there is a make shift camp, where you spend the night in a hammock with a mosquito net. You can go fishing, learn about medicinal plants, swim in the sula or relax in the hammock. An adventurous trip where you may perhaps eat at dinner the Anjoemara you caught and listening to the sounds of the jungle. During this trip you will experience the jungle in an unaffected manner and forget life outside.

Day program

Day 1: Paramaribo – Jungle Resort Pingpe

If you travel by bus and canoe, you will be picked up in the morning between 08:00 and 08:30hrs from your hotel or guesthouse (within Paramaribo center). By bus the journey to Atjoni, the canoe jetty is about 2.5 hrs. On the way to Atjoni one begin to experience and enjoy the colorful culture Suriname offers, particularly as you travel along little villages and settlements of Amer-Indians and Maroons. At Antjoni you can stretch your legs and get lunch.
Meanwhile the canoe is being loaded for the trip to Jungle Resort Pingpe. After lunch you will travel for approximately 3.5 hrs over the beautiful Boven-Suriname River to Pingpe, but the duration of the trip depends on the tide of river. During your boat trip you will see many villages along the river and you can enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
When you travel by air, you take-off in the afternoon from the city airport Zorg en Hoop in Paramaribo.. The flying time to airstrip Djumu, situated in the middle of Suriname’s rainforest, is about 45 minutes. From the aircraft you have a marvelous view of the jungle, the big plain of the forest and the winding rivers with different villages. From Djumu you will then travel by canoe for about 15 minutes to Pingpe Resort, where an appetizing meal is awaiting you.
After your welcome in Jungle Resort Pingpe and you are settled in your cottage, you have the opportunity to swim and chill on the islands in the river. After dinner you get to meet the local staff and the tour guide will tell you all about the Saramaccan culture, the language, interesting facts of the island, the surroundings and the program of the following day.

Day 2: Start of the Back-to-Basic Experience: hike through the entouched jungle

After breakfast you travel by canoe to Pingpe, where your back-to-basic experience begins. Accompanied by the guide you go deep in the untouched jungle .The staff takes care of food and drinks. After a 4 to 5-hours walk you reach a large creek with a basic camp, camp Anjoemara. During the walk the guide informs you about the flora and fauna but also about the customs in the jungle. The creek is good for swimming and bathing, but you can also challenge yourself to fish on Anjoemara or relax in a hammock with a book. After dinner you can enjoy a campfire and quietness in the jungle, before you rock yourself to sleep in your hammock.

Day 3: Fun in in the Jungle

You will spend the entire day in the jungle. You can take a brisk walk, accompanied by the guide, who will give you a lot of information about the different (medicinal) plants, trees and animals; or you can lay down in the sula or chill in the creek. You can also take the challenge to fish on Anjoemara, which will be prepared for your dinner. Once again you will spend the night at the camp in the tranquility of the jungle.

Day 4: Walk back to the Resort and be rewarded with a cultural evening.

After breakfast and the breaking up of the camp you walk back in 3 to 4 hours to Pingpe village. From there you will be brought by canoe to the Resort. In the afternoon you can recover from the walk. After dinner the locals will treat you on an evening full of culture; song, dance and rhythm are the keywords of this evening with the women get very excited and the guests join in on these evening activities.

Day 5: Visit to Asidonhopo and Chilling in the Stunning sula

Early in the morning you will go by boat to the village Semoisie. You will also visit the local primary school, where children of both villages get their education. Here after you go back to Jungle Resort Pingpe where breakfast is ready for you.
In the afternoon you travel by canoe to Asidonhopo village, located on the Pikin Rio River where the Granman (Tribal Chief) resides. You take a walk through the village and you visit the local radio station. After your hike you travel by canoe to the beautiful Tapawatra sula (rapids) where you can swim and enjoy a natural massage in the water. On one of the cliffs in the sula lunch will be served. On the way back to the Resort, accompanied by the guide, you will visit the Health Centre in Djumu, which is a central medical station for the area.
After dinner you make an evening trip with the canoe. The guide let the boat go with the flow of the river, so you can enjoy the quietness of the jungle, or just the beautiful sounds of the jungle, the starlit and/or spot caimans.

Day 6: Jungle Resort Pingpe- Paramaribo

If you return to Paramaribo is by boat and bus, you will, after breakfast, leave Pingpe Resort by canoe to Atjoni which trip is about 2.5 hrs. In the boat or in Atjoni you can again enjoy a lovely lunch before you depart by bus to Paramaribo, a trip of about 2 hrs.
If you travel by air, you still have time to enjoy the morning with swimming in the river, relaxing in the sun or reading a book in a hammock. Around midday it’s time for an early lunch. Then you go by canoe to the airstrip of Djumu and from there you fly back to the city airport Zorg en Hoop in Paramaribo.
